Welcome to Into the Mystic
Thank you for choosing to go on this mystical adventure with me, as we explore some mystical aids to our writing process. My hope is that, through this journey, your poems–and your sense of self–become more expansive, capacious, weird, dreamy, cosmic, and grounded–in short, that a kind of wild seed is planted in your creative practice.
Our time will be organized into three main subject areas or “portals”--openings toward greater mystical connection and exploration. For Week 1, we’ll begin with a general overview of what we mean when we say “mystic” or “mystical” and begin to consider how we are already in conversation with the “mystic.”
In Week 2, we'll think about how we can tap into our dreams as guide posts for living in more alignment with our values, particularly our creativity, as well as accessing the bountiful imagery of dreams that we can bring to the page.
In Week 3, we’ll investigate how rituals and spells can be integrated into our practice, both on the page and in our approach to our work. How might a ritual around writing head off writer’s block? How might we shape a poem into a spell?
In Week 4, we’ll look at tarot’s role in our creativity, both as a way to help us work through the creative process and in what we produce–we’ll encounter poems that feature the cards and hear about ways to use the cards to work through our material.
Along the way, I will host weekly drop-in office hours so you can chat with me one-on-one about any of the topics we encounter. I also encourage you to share your expertise and interests in our asynchronous conversations!
Finally, note that I will offer optional materials each week, as well as multiple prompts to consider. I invite you to save material you don’t have time for in our four weeks together to access down the road.
Please feel free to comment below sharing a bit of what drew you to this course, before stepping “into the mystic.”
